The main opposition New Patriotic Party returns to court today (Friday) over a case of interlocutory injunction filed by two people seeking to have the party delay its October 18 delegates� congress meant for the election of a flagbearer ahead of the 2016 general elections.
The plaintiffs�Rexford Agyei Frimpong and Opong Kyekyeku�both card-bearing members of the party, argue that the October 18 date violates the NPP�s constitution.
They believe the time favours one of the three candidates�Nana Akufo-Addo.
Prior to their court action, the other two candidates�Alan Kyerematen and Francis Addai Nimoh�jointly petitioned the party�s national executive council to demand more time for campaigning.
They said in their petition that October 18 was too short a time for them to comb through the entire country to present their case to the 141,000 Delegates billed to take party in the mega congress.
The three candidates are among five shortlisted contestants who emerged tops after the party�s super delegates� congress, which nudged off two other aspirants.
Two of the five successful candidates who qualified for the next phase of the competition voluntarily stepped down to support the bid of two-time presidential candidate Akufo-Addo.
They are former Attorney General Joe Ghartey and Asuogyaman MP Kofi Osei Ameyaw.
