Resign To Restore Your Image Kofi Adams Tells CHRAJ Boss

Deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is advising the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Lauretta Lamptey, to resign. According to Kofi Adams, it will help restore her dented image and also restore the integrity of the Commission. Ms. Lamptey has been heavily criticized after it emerged that she used an estimated one hundred and eighty thousand Ghana cedis to renovate her official residence. She also spent 4,500 dollars every month for almost three years to rent an apartment at the plush AU Village since November 2011. Madam Lampteys issue became topical when it was reported that she had since August been living in a hotel paying a daily rate of more than 450 dollars. This has generated a heated debate in the country with many including civil society groups calling for her sack. However, CHRAJ boss has snubbed the calls insisting that they are borne out of ignorance. Speaking on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme on Thursday, Kofi Adams maintained that resignation will be in her interest. He explained that due to the bashing she has received in the past weeks, it will be prudent for her to step aside. The NDC Deputy General Secretary could not fathom why for three years, rehabilitation works on her official residence had not been completed Kofi Adams said though Ms. Lamptey erred in her decision to stay in a hotel, the directors at CHRAJ who approved the profligate expenditure should equally be blamed. Meanwhile, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has picked up the Head of Treasury at CHRAJ for questioning. Sonny Eric Adinyira is on secondment at CHRAJ from the Controller and Accountant Generals Department.
