Two foreigners who were arrested over fake 100- dollar bills at Mile Seven in Accra on Friday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Charged with possessing fake currency, Mohamed Basim, 35, a Tunisian and Adekunle Morufden, 52, a Nigerian, have pleaded not guilty. The court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Agyin-Doku remanded them into Police custody to reappear on October 6. This was after the court had turned down a bail application put in by their lawyer, Mr Kwame Waja. Earlier the Prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Aidan Dery told the court that, the dollar notes are been sent to Bank of Ghana for verification. On September 23, at about 1500 hours, based on intelligence, the Special Weapon and Tactics Team from the Police Headquarters, led by the National Command, undertook a special operation at Mile 7 and intercepted a Toyota Corolla. It was detected that the accused persons have hidden the fake dollars in a silver coated trunk in the car with registration number GR 5225-13. According to prosecution the accused persons attempted bribing the police with $30,000 which they refuse and arrested them. During interrogation, Morufden confessed that they were to trade the fake dollars for GH�300 million.
