Parliament To Sit At Conference Centre To Approve Spio Gabrahs Nomination

Members of Parliament (MPs) are expected to conduct public business from the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) when they convene for emergency purposes to consider the approval of the Presidents nominee to the Trade ministry, Adomonline can confirm. The 275 MPs will converge from 1st October following a recall by the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho in accordance with Order 42 (3) of the Standing Orders of the legislature. And it is within the period of the emergency sitting that Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah who was vetted while the house was on recess would be approved. He would head the Trade Ministry which has been without a minister since the reshuffling of Haruna Iddrissu to the Employment and Labour Ministry. But the MPs cannot make use of the floor of Parliament House due to renovation exercises underway to configure the main chamber block to accommodate their increased numbers. The current chamber is overcrowded forcing MPs to share desk and microphones. They also complain of difficulty in accessing their seats. The emergency sitting of the house would also be used to consider outstanding bills, loans and other relevant subject matters. Parliament on 18th July went on recess and the legislators are expected to begin the next session of the house on 21st October, 2014.
