Abu Ramadan Raises Red Flag Over New NIA Registration

The National Youth Organizer of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan has raised red flag over the decision by the National Identification Authority (NIA) to replace the Ghana card with a new one. He is convinced it is another ploy by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rig the 2016 General Elections. The NIA is about spending another 115 million dollars to conduct a mass registration exercise to replace the old identity cards. The project called the expanded registration project is under a public private partnership. Public Relations Officer of the authority, Bertha Dzeble has explained that the new smart card has a larger storage capacity that will enhance governments vision of harmonizing all databases into one. She said the new cards would serve as a one stop card that will be used for all transactions by Ghanaians. But speaking on Asempa FMs Ekosii programme Friday, Abu Ramadan said it is just the waste of tax payers money. He could not fathom why the over one million cards issued by the NIA will go waste as the authority plans to replace them with new smart cards expected to have expanded features and information. Abu Ramadan alleged that because the NDC failed in its bid to use the NHIA card ahead of 2016, they want to use the new NIA card. NDC only think of how to win elections and not hoe to govern but Im sounding a worrying that we the guard dogs will not allow that to happen.
