A Senior Research Fellow at the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD), Professor Vladimir Antwi-Danso, has started that the only way for the People�s National Convention (PNC) and the Convention People�s Party (CPP) to make a meaning in Ghana�s political dispensation is to unite. He has, therefore, called on the leadership of the two parties to iron out their differences and work hard to ensure that the two parties would merge as �one strong party� ahead of the 2016 general election. Speaking at a public lecture to commemorate the swearing in of Dr Hilla Limann as President of the Third Republic of Ghana, Professor Antwi-Danso said, �The two political parties have no choice but to unite.� Public lecture The lecture was organised by the People�s National Convention (PNC). The three-hour event, which was on the theme: �The Limann We Know�, brought together key members of the PNC, including the party�s chairman and 2012 presidential candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan and Hassan Ayariga, respectively. The occasion was also graced by the Chairperson of the Convention People�s Party (CPP), Ms Samia Yaba Nkrumah, and the widow of Dr Limann, Mrs Fulera Limann. One focus According to Prof. Antwi-Danso, the merging of the two parties would create a platform for them to have a strong focus and one vision to continue the policies of Dr Limann and Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Touching on some of the exceptional leadership skills exhibited by Dr Limann, Prof. Antwi-Danso said the former president did well to run an �all-inclusive government, and he allowed institutions to work without interfering in their affairs.� �Unfortunately, our leaders have abandoned this unique style and rather resorted to intervening in the running of affairs and governance at the institution level. This has led to corruption and judgement debts through fraudulent acts,� he said. Ms Nkrumah said she was willing to step down and become the vice-chairperson of �a united Nkrumah�s party� made up of the PNC and CPP. She added that for the two parties to make a great impact in Ghana�s political dispensation, there was the need for members to work as a team. Hassan Ayariga on PNC The 2012 presidential candidate of the PNC mentioned divisiveness in the party as the major impediment to the progress of PNC. According to him, instead of PNC members focusing on building the grassroots, they had rather resorted to �following individuals in the party�- a situation that could lead to the stagnation of PNC if not properly addressed.
