A total of GH�21,480 was realised as court fines from 38 motorists convicted for flouting road traffic regulations on the Kasoa-Cape Coast highway last week.
The convicts were among 50 motorists arrested by the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) following a special operation carried out by the Director General of the MTTD, Mr Awuni Anwugbutoge, in collaboration with the regional commanders of the Central and Western regions.
In all, 50 motorists were arrested on the Kasoa Highway, out of which 41 were sent to court, with 38 of them convicted after they were found guilty for committing various road traffic regulations.
Briefing The Mirror during an interview,the Kasoa MTTD Officer, ASP Alhassan Bawah said one of the suspected motorist was acquitted and discharged when he appeared before the court, while nine were issued with warning letters to be of good behaviour on the road.
He said bench warrant had been issued for the arrest of two others who failed to appear before the court.
According to Mr Bawah, the 38 motorists who were convicted paid fines that ranged between GH�480 and GH�840. He said 20 of the convicts paid GH�420each, nine paid GH�600 each with four of them paying GH�720 each, while five others were convicted to pay GH�840 each in fines.
He said their offences included insecure loading, failing to carry driving licences, failing to renew road worthy certificates, using vehicles with defective number plates, and the use of vehicles with defective brakes.
Other offences that caused their conviction were the use of vehicles with defective brake lights and reflectors, as well as shattered windscreens and worn out tyres.
