Spiritualist, Driver Nabbed For Robbery

A spiritualist, Kweku Gyasi alias Mallam Kapito and a driver, Justice Nkrumah alias Sumaila Kwame Appiah have been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly robbing the safe of Coastline Financial Services, which contained an amount of GH�23,387.00, as well as laptops and computer accessories. The accused persons were put before a court presided over by Francis Obiri and charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery after they and five others allegedly stormed the premises of the firm and beat up the security man there. They denied any wrongdoing and have been remanded into police custody while the case has been adjourned to October 13, 2014. The facts of the case as presented by the prosecuting officer DSP Aidan Dery are that the complainant in this case is Seth Boateng, a banker and the manager of Coastline Financial Services at Abura Dunkwa. He said the driver is a resident of Yamoransa while Mallam Kapito is a vendor who lives at Akonoma. According to him, on 21 April 2014, the driver went to Coastline Financial Services with a certain lady to apply for a loan but later said he could not do so because of the stringent conditions. He said on April 25, 2014 at about 2.30 am, eight armed men who were wearing masks entered the Coastline premises and robbed the company of the said items, including the mobile phone of the security man. The prosecutor stated that they beat up the security man and a complaint was lodged with the police. Furthermore, he noted that an informant contacted the police and linked the two accused persons to the robbery case. On May 17, 2014, the driver was spotted with a Toyota saloon car with registration GR 405 X at Yamoransa by police officers at a barrier. He stated that he jumped from the vehicle and bolted away, adding that he was arrested with the help of the Saltpond Police while his alleged accomplice Mallam Kapito was arrested later at Akonoma.
