Ghana, China Sign Agreement On Ebola Support

China has signed a pact with Ghana to provide aid in the form of materials, worth $812,786 to support its preparation against Ebola. The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Sun Baohong, initialled for China, while the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, signed for Ghana. Although Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola, the country is making preparations in readiness for a possible outbreak. So far, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, have reported more than 5,000 cases of the disease, with about 3,000 casualties. Madam Sun, who expressed worry about the outbreak of the disease, said �the epidemic knows no borders, while �adversity reveals true friendship.� �We must stand together, work hand in hand with confidence to win the fight and prevail over the scourge of the outbreak,� she said. She stated that China had taken the initiative to join the international community including the United Nations and the World Health Organisation (WHO), to support the mobilisation of resources to fight the epidemic. Commendation Madam Sun commended President John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana for the efforts made in coordinating West African countries and the international society to deal with the spread of the disease. For his part, Mr Forson expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government for the support, saying the aid was another step towards boosting the relationship between the two countries. He urged the international community to continue supporting Africa in this crisis period.
