Let's Admit Our Society Is Rotten...Name And Shame Those Responsible - Fred Agbenyo

NDC Communicator, Fred Agbenyo has called for a concerted effort between government and stakeholders in the media fraternity to uncover rots at state institutions. Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Fred Agbenyo called on the entire nation to serve as watchdogs on the various institutions, particularly the public service. According to him, Ghana's society is corrupt and as part of measures to combat the canker of corruption, political parties, government and the citizenry should collaborate to nip the rot in the bud. Fred, who is gunning for the position of Deputy National Propaganda Secretary in the party's upcoming congress, admonished the nation to refrain from putting on political lenses when discussing the issue of corruption and rather treat it as something of national interest by naming and shaming anyone who perpetuates corruption in the country. We must admit that our society is rotten. So, we must allow for a probe and the media should assist. We all should name and shame and punish those we have to punish, he said. He was commenting on reports that officials of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) have uncovered a GHC 7.9 million deep-rooted canker at the National Service Secretariat (NSS). The amount, according to Thursday's edition of the Daily Graphic, represents the allowance paid to 22, 612 non-existent service persons in more than 100 districts across the country, for the month of July. After uncovering the rot at the NSS, some high-ranking officials were reported to have paid the BNI GHC 200,000 together with smocks, laptops, goats and tubers of yam to conceal their actions. Investigations revealed thousands of ghost names in all payment vouchers across the country. Though investigations have not been concluded, about 22,612 ghost names have so far been unearthed, the newspaper read. The State is said to have also lost GHC 7,914,200 every month. Touching on the incident as reported by the media, Fred Agbenyo lauded President John Mahama for his commitment to fighting the canker. He intimated that the action by the officials of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to uncover the GH7.9 million menace at the NSS was sanctioned by President John Mahama, which is an indication that he does not condone corruptible practices.
