NPP Member Roots For Akufo-Addo

Mr Joseph Kumah Mackay, a leading Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sene West District, has said the NPP might not win in 2016 general election if the party replaced Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with any presidential candidate. He said though the NPP was built on the principles of democracy and the party respected its internal democratic structures, the 2016 general election was crucial and exceptional and the 2008 and 2012 presidential candidate of the party needed to be given another chance. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Kwame-Danso on Monday, Mr Mackay said the party needed to strategize well and to accept concepts that could enable it to win in 2016. He said although the NPP remained the strongest opposition party, it would be disastrous if the party failed to present a popular and winnable presidential candidate. Mr Mackay, who is the International Development Manager/Consultant, of the Media Savvy Training Solutions, a United Kingdom-based firm, said unity was essential and appealed to the leadership of the party to be responsive enough in addressing internal problems of the party. He also called on members and supporters of the party to embrace peace, and come under one umbrella to identify and tackle diverse problems that led to the defeat of the party in 2012.
