Rot At NSS: Government Appoints New Director

Reports available to peacefmonline.com indicates that a new Executive Director has been appointed to manage affairs of the National Service Secretariat (NSS). The Executive Director of the NSS, Alhaji Alhassan Imoro and 23 others were ordered to step aside after investigations revealed they had embezzled GHC 7.9 million through the payment of allowances to about 20,000 non-existent service personnel. According to reports, some high-ranking officials of the NSS tried to bribe investigators from the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI), who discovered the rot with an amount of GHC200,000. Had they collected this amount, the rot would have been concealed. Confirming the appointment of a new director on PEACE FM morning show Kokrokoo, Deputy Minister in charge of Tertiary education, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwah said the new director is to ensure that work at the secretariat is not halted. He however refused to give out the name of the new director saying by close of the week, government will release the name. This is just a temporary measurenational service was established to imbibed in the youth a spirit of nationalism, patriotism, sacrifice but what some of them did was absolutely unconscionable and so our view is to get somebody from outside to really come and clean the slate so that we can redeem the image of the national service schemeIt is very clear that this matter has taken the national attention and it is our hope that the investigations would be concluded on time for action to be taken. The urgency of this matter is clear to everybody. He said.
