Calls For EC Boss's Replacement Unnecessary And A Prescription For Chaos - Kwakye Ofosu

Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says calls for the replacement of the Electoral Commissioner (EC); Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan should be brushed aside by government. Speaking on "Kokrokoo" on Peace FM Wednesday, Felix Kwakye Ofosu was of a strong view that opposition parties are making "baseless" arguments regarding the competence of the Electoral Commissioner and so, their calls for him to be replaced is a recipe for chaos. The Deputy Minister asked the critics to respect the constitution. According to him, people cannot merely rise up and cast aspersions on Dr. Afari Gyan just because they failed to emerge victors in a general election. He therefore urged those calling on government to replace Dr. Afari Gyan to follow the procedures laid down under the 1992 constitution and also make sure that their calls are of national interest but not for political gains. We must have institutions that stand the test of time and can absorb shocks from political players because left with us alone, you would do everything to meet our parochial interest "If you do not like something, there are procedures to follow to seek interpretations. But dont act in such a way that since you have been defeated in an election, the Electoral Commissioner should be replaced. For me, its an unnecessary call and its uncalled for. And its a prescription for chaos...we must respect the constitution, the Deputy Minister for Communications said.
