2 Deputy Directors Of GNSS Recalled

Two Deputy Directors of the Ghana National Service Scheme (GNSS), who were interdicted in connection to the corrupt practices at the scheme have been recalled by the governing board. They are Mr. Michael Kombor, in charge of Finance & Administration, and Madam Sophia Karen Akuako, in charge of operations. Consequently, the governing Board has relinquished its temporary managerial role. A statement by the board in Accra yesterday, explained that the decision was taken to recall them because they have not been cited in the preliminary report of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI). The decision followed a meeting between the board and the Ministry of Education yesterday during which the board was briefed by the Ministry on the preliminary report on the ongoing investigations by the BNI. The ministry indicated to the board that a new acting head of the Scheme would be appointed very soon. The Deputy Minister of Education, in charge of Tertiary education, Mr. Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, told The Ghanaian Times on Tuesday, that government has resolved to appoint a new acting head to steer the affairs of the scheme pending the investigations. A statement issued and signed by the board chair, Mrs. Gifty Mahama Biyira yesterday did not indicate the date on which the appointment would be made but said it would be soon. It said as a result the governing board that took over from management has relinquished its temporary managerial role. However, speaking to The Ghanaian Times, Mr. Ablakwa said the interim Head and the management are expected to collaborate with the board of the service, while the BNI continued with its investigations. Mr. Ablakwa gave the assurance that the government would prosecute those who would be indicated by the BNI report which would be submitted to the President.
