Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the President of setting up the former Minister of Sports. According to him, President Mahama has over the years, exhibited the tendency of scheming against all those he sees as threat to his chances of winning a second term as President and Elvis Afiyie Ankrah is his latest victim. �..he deliberately gave Elvis Afriyie Ankrah money to go to Brazil, knowing he would surely commit himself. This was simply to thwart his presidential ambition. �He (President Mahama) did the same thing to Bagbin...if you show any signs of wanting to be president, he will cut you down,� he asserted. Chairman Wontumi made these scathing allegations on Okay FM during a telephone interview on the back of an ongoing inquest into the abysmal performance that led to the early ousting of the Black Stars from the 2014 World Cup tournament in Brazil. During his appearance at the Presidential Commission to unravel the reason to Ghana�s poor showing and the allegations of embezzlement, the former Minister for Youth and Sports conceded to many lapses during the tournament, apologized to the entire nation and shed tears in the process. �I apologize to all Ghanaians for what happened and also for the behavior of the team both on the field and off the pitch. Many things happened therefore which I will give appropriate account at a right time, needless to say that I feel the pain and disappointment of Ghanaians,� he said. But Chairman Wontumi is of the conviction that all that was a well calculated scheme to �kill� Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah�s presidential ambition once and for all.
