Leadership Is Not About Buga-Buga Kwabena Adjei

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Adjei, has charged at his critics who say he is too soft for the position and therefore wondering how he managed to win two elections for the party, claiming that leadership is not about buga-buga. Some of his opponents contesting for the position of national chairman are said to be going round telling delegates of the partys upcoming congress to elect national officers not to vote for the man because he does not have what it takes to lead the NDC. Instead, they claim he has virtually ceded his roles to party General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, aka General Mosquito. But speaking at his campaign launch Wednesday, Dr Kwabena Adjei, popularly known as Wayooo Wayo, said, If people come to tell you Im soft, they should be voted into power so that they can control the president; its very wrong; not only wrong, its a recipe for political disaster. Basis The president, by our Constitution, wields very wide executive powers; anybody who comes to tell you that I am too soft and that he has to be voted into power to control the president and the ministers is telling you that there is danger ahead, he pointed out. This, he explained, is because the Constitution doesnt give any real functional role to the national chairman to control the president. In view of that, he indicated that The national chairman must be the leader who is able to weave through things with parliament, with Mr. President and everybody. Dr. Kwabena Adjei, former Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister for Agriculture said, You dont change a situation when you dont know the situation that will follow in the future. He articulated, If you are a leader and you dont allow those who are a little bit subordinate to you or your equals to perform their functions, you are leading that organization to leadership, a situation he likened to pathological leadership which is characterized by people who want to wield all the power that are wielded by many people within the organization. Schemes He therefore charged delegates who would be voting in the upcoming national congress not to fall for the various schemes being employed by his opponents to unseat him, observing that If we are able to ward off invectives, insults and character assassinations, well be able to keep ourselves intact. My position is that character-assassinate me, insult me, say any untruthful thing about me, but Ill say, all those who are saying it, let them go ahead, he declared to an applause from the teeming crowd. According to him, Leadership is not buga-buga matter. Dr. Adjei indicated that leadership is both collective and situational and that every situation demands a particular kind of leadership, which he said he and his colleague national executives were offering. The incumbent national chairman, who is seeking reelection pleaded, I want to appeal to you Im the best bet for this moment not forever. He noted with emphasis, If we are guided by the principle in the bible that man does not live by bread alone, then well see our way forward very clearly.
