Ghana�s Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Alhassan has been appointed President of Inspector General of Police in the ECOWAS sub-region.
The announcement was made in Lome, Togo, where ECOWAS Security Chiefs are holding a meeting.
Mr. Alhassan will lead the police chiefs in West Africa for the next two years after his Ivorian colleague, Bredou Mbia.
Joy News reports Saturday October 11, issues of terrorism, cross-border crime and the deadly Ebola disease are taking a center stage at the ongoing ECOWAS security chiefs meeting which is also chaired by Ghana�s Interior Minister Mark Woyongo.
�It only means a lot of responsibilities to be able to coordinate activities of the various police services within the sub-region,� Mr. Alhassan said.
�As a chairman, there are issues that are dearest to all that I intend expending my energy [on] in order that we can have effective strategies to deal with common problems [that threaten security and stability] of the sub-region,� he added.
