The Electoral Commission (EC) has registered a total of 24,037 new voters in the in the Upper West Region, during its recent nationwide voter registration exercise. The breakdown of the figure, according to districts saw Wa Municipal recording the highest number of 4,004 registered persons. The rest are Wa West 2,718, Wa East 2,385, Nadowli-Kaleo, 1,992, Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, 1,137, Jirapa, 2,366, Lambussie-Karni, 1,524, Lawra, 1,831, Nandom, 1,990, Sissala West, 2,365 and Sissala East, 1,725. In all, 15 people had their registration challenged on grounds of nationality and age, out of which 12 were disqualified by the Commission after careful investigations. Out of the 12 disqualified persons, three were from Wa Municipal, three from Wa West, and six from the Lambussie-Karni District. In Wa West, the people were challenged based on nationality, Wa Municipal was on age, and Lambussie-Karni was the combination of both. Mr Serebour Quaicoe, Upper West Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, said the exercise was largely successful in the region, and expressed gratitude to stakeholders who collaborated with the Commission to achieve the success. He said unlike others regions, the region recorded no incidents throughout the 10-day period of the exercise.
