Ghanaians, do not see the two-time presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a �competent� and �attractive� presidential material, this is according to a group calling itself �Grassroots for John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen�. Its spokesperson, Richmond Yeboah, told STARR NEWS in an interview in Cape Coast that the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice in the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor government, must step aside for a more �attractive� and �humble� candidate, Alan Kyerematen, to lead the main opposition NPP into the 2016 presidential election. ��It is most likely that in 2016, we wouldn�t be able to win with him [Akufo-Addo]. Nana is a fine gentleman and he is someone that we believe can transform the nation into what we are all looking for, but unfortunately, Ghanaians don�t see that in Nana Addo. They think that he is not competent, they think that he is not someone who should be given power�, Yeboah said. According to Yeboah, people�s negative perception about the former Foreign Affairs Minister, makes him unattractive for power. He said, for the party to win over floating voters in the 2016 elections, it needs the humility and attractiveness of twice-failed flagbearer-aspirant, Kyerematen, who is in the race for the standard-bearer race with Akufo-Addo and legislator Francis Addai Nimoh. In the group�s opinion, Akufo-Addo�s failure, in two separate elections, to win power for the NPP, makes him unfit to have a third consecutive go at the presidency. Former General Secretary of the main opposition party and spokesperson for Kyerematen, Nana Ohene Ntow, has also urged the party�s two-time presidential candidate to step down for the former trades minister, as he (Alan) did for him in the party�s presidential primaries in 2007. But the camp of Nana Akufo-Addo, has described as a �big joke� calls for the former attorney general to step down for his main contender , Alan Kyerematen, in the NPP�s flagbearership contest. Speaking on Asempa FM, last Wednesday, the Campaign Manager for Akufo-Addo, Boakye Agyarko said, the call was baseless and lacked merit. �Let them stop joking, in 2007 nobody asked him to step down; he knew what was coming. He would have lost again if he had tried it� Agyarko fumed. He added that �He did not do anybody a favour, I can swear that if he had gone for the second round, Nana Addo would have won again. This is not a tit for tat business. We need someone who can lead Ghana�. Alan Kyerematen, is in the race with the former foreign affairs minister and legislator, Francis Addai Nimoh. One of them will be elected by an Electoral College of 140,000 Delegates ahead of the 2016 general elections in the October 18, 2014 internal poll.
