17 Busted! For Manipulating E-Pay Slip To Access Loan From Teachers Fund

Seventeen 17 teachers, together with two (2) accomplices, currently in police custody at the Cantonment Police Station, would in the coming weeks come face-to-face with the law on charges of forgery and trying to steal from the Teachers Fund. The teachers who are from different parts of the country have allegedly manipulated figures on their e-pay slips and presented hardcopies of same to the Teachers Fund to access loans. The e-pay slip system which became fully operational February this year, allows workers who draw their salaries from Controller and Accountant General to access their pay slips online. It was in light of this that the teachers involved contracted some IT personnels to help them clean some debts they already owed the Teachers Fund so they could re-access loans from the fund. Narrating the incident to the media yesterday, Cantonment Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Iddi Seidu, noted that their operation online caused Controller not to effect deductions of the already owed loans to the TFund. An audit conducted by the fund management establishes that some of the Teachers had forged their pay slips by deleting some commitments which makes them not eligible to access the fund and had presented same to the fund, he added. The Commander indicated that when investigations was conducted into the matter by the police after it had been reported, it came to light that 30 teachers from Eastern, Western, Brong Ahafo and Central Regions were involved in such nefarious act. In their caution statements to the police, they admitted the offense and further stated that, they were charged fees ranging between GH20 to GH50 by the Graphic designers and paid GH20.00 to their agents before the false entries were made, Chief Superintendent Seidu revealed that through the efforts of their counterparts in the other regions; they have so far arrested 13 teachers, 2 accomplices and a Graphic Designer. He said upon hearing of the arrest of their colleagues, other suspects absconded but assured they would be picked up and processed for court soon since the issue was still under investigations. Sena Atoklo, from the Media Department of the Teachers Fund said but for the due diligent done by the management, the fund would have lost a very large amount. He explained that they would have made away with GH 200, 000 if their applications for loans had not been detected. The teachers to be arrigned for court include: include Asare Azi Theophilus, Ofosu Afari Sampson, Isaac Donkor, Festus Atsu Abosi, Oppong Yaw Amponsah Vincent Ainoo, Adenyo Doe Isaac, Aseidu Milicent, Nathan Sakyi, Ransford Aidoo, Anna Krampah, Daiel Narh and Seth Asumah.\the accomplices include Ernest Abaitey, Samuel Martey and Alex Armah Agyema.
