I have seen many storms in my life. Most storms have caught me by surprise, so I had to learn very quickly to look further and understand that I am not capable of controlling the weather, to exercise the art of patience and to respect the fury of nature. However, when you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see the real you, or what you have been conditioned to believe is you? The two are so, so different. But the question is - are you capable of managing your own affairs to the extent of managing the environment which you find yourself in. Often, most of us hit our chest and brag to can do all without a helping hand but this sometimes rather worsens things. Two heads they say is better than one. Some decades ago an illustrious son of mother Ghana then the gold coast, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah had a dream. A dream he fought with all that he had to make a reality and exactly on march 6, 1957 when his dream was made a reality, he said and I quote: �But also, as I pointed out, that also entails hard work. That new Africa is ready to fight her own battles and show that after all the black man is capable of managing his own affairs. But I am sure late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah would be turning in his grave by now because absolutely this was not his idea of us managing our own affairs. He might have had a flawless dream that the black man will be capable of managing things on his own in future when on that fateful day and night of 6th March 1957, climbed onto the podium�flanked by his closest comrades, he had thought out and proceeded to visualize a bright future for Ghana; he wanted to make Ghana self-reliant in every way imaginable, he wanted to make Ghana the standard-bearer of African Independence and self-development. But years after his death, questions have emanated as to whether Ghana [Blackman�s country] is capable of managing its own affair. The answer to that is a Big NO. In as much as I don�t want to sound judgmental, I would say all heads of states aside Dr. Kwame Nkrumah have done little to achieve Nkrumah�s dream for Ghana. Ironically, another school of thought also believes Nkrumah is the genesis of Ghana�s predicament but that will be a topic for discussion some other time since my many focus is whether we are capable of managing our own affairs. Fifty seven years after independence, Ghana cannot provide uninterrupted power supply as a nation. Parts of the nation have not had portable drinking water flowing through its taps for years. Prices of goods and services keep escalating. Quality of education keeps dwindling; students still have classes under trees. Civil servants complain about their social security not being paid, unemployment is over the roof and the list of the woes of mother Ghana is endless. Oh Ghana paa nie? It�s like mother Ghana is in reverse after 57 years instead of advancing and achieving its dreams with all the resources the country have. Can I then say it�s �adwen fi� [bad mentality] on the side of our leaders? I really find it embarrassing that Ghana still goes back to the Whiteman cap in hand to beg for his crumbs. We are satisfied with the crumbs from his table but the feast being thrown in our honour in our own house is not enough for us to depend on. Ghana is blessed with minerals and everything we need to make our nation great and strong as our national anthem suggests; yet we are not able to make any good use of it. Again, When you take into consideration numerous contracts that can be well executed by local contractors but instead awarded to foreigners, and the sort of political leadership style we, Ghanaians, have been exposed to, then it�s obvious that not all black men are capable of managing their own affairs. Indeed, the battle of foreign rule and imperialism might have ended but the Blackman is still fighting the battle of a correct attitude, greed, corruption and positive thinking. Until the Blackman is able to conquer these, we will still be enslaved in an independent state and we cannot manage our affairs well enough. Sorry Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah with all due respect, the Blackman cannot manage his own affairs with the same corruptible mindset.
