Confusion At NPP Meeting As Nana, Alan Supporters Clash

The atmosphere at Akweis House in the Odododiodoo Constituency of the Greater Accra region was bizarre on Friday October 10, 2014 when a New Patriotic Party (NPP) meeting being held was brought to an abrupt end due to confusion between supporters of Nana Akufo-Addo and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen. Chairs, tables, microphone and speakers being used for the meeting were seen flying in the air while those present at the meeting had to run for their lives. The confusion erupted when the constituency chairman, Raymond Ntoana Tetteh, openly declared his support for Nana Akufo-Addo during the meeting. Mr. Tetteh at the opening of the meeting explained that Mr Akufo-Addo had suffered for the party and must be given the total victory by the delegates at Odododiodoo. He said it would be sad and suicidal if the delegates of the NPP give Mr Akufo-Addo their hundred percent support without that of Odododiodoo, which was why he was calling on the delegates to vote for Akufo-Addo. Mr. Tetteh said Akufo-Addo during the launch of the party at Akweis House, where the NPP was formed several decades ago, gave the constituency GH5,000.00 for the renovation of Akweis house and this alone should compel the delegates to vote for him. This did not go down well with other delegates and supporters who were present at the meeting and after the chairman had finished with his speech; speaker after speaker condemned his open support for Akufo-Addo. Speakers such as Nii Aryee, Nii Allotey, Awudu and Nii Akwei Sacker were furious about the chairmans call on the delegates to vote for Akufo-Addo. They wondered why as a chairman who was supposed to embrace all the three candidates, he would openly call for support for one of them. The speaker accused the chairman of receiving money from Akufo- Addo and asking them to vote for him with his mouth. The aforementioned speakers argued that Akufo-Addo is old and so should quit politics, but that does mean the NPP must not exist, explaining, the old must give room for the younger ones to operate. The former chairman for Odododiodoo, Criedch Jones, who was at the meeting condemned the open support for Akufo-Addo. He explained that, even though he was currently campaigning for Akufo-Addo, delegates should be allowed to choose who they want to lead the party in 2016. His condemnation followed another pro-Alan supporter calling for votes and this did not go down well with Akufo- Addos supporters who started vandalizing tables and chairs at the meeting. Both supporters of Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyerematen were seen running for their dear lives which brought the meeting to an abrupt end. Most of the youth were furious about the incident and warned to deal with the chairman should he make such statements at their meetings again.
