The Chairman of the Public Account Committee in Parliament, Kwaku Agyemang Manu has called for the prosecution of persons who have been implicated in the Auditor General�s report from 2010 to 2012. This follows the revelation that about 48.4 million cedis could not be accounted for by district assemblies across the country in the 2012 Auditor General�s report alone. Testimonies at PAC�s sitting in Tamale, for instance, indicated that some district assemblies in the three regions of the north deliberately misused their share of the District Assembly Common Fund. It became clear that most district assemblies in the area which is considered as the poorest also misappropriated funds, with the Upper West region recording the highest cases of financial impropriety. Mr. Agyemang Manu said if the people involved in the misappropriation of funds are not prosecuted the committee�s work will be rendered useless. Government has come under intense criticisms for rising spate of corruption in the country. The latest case to hit the country is the Commissioner of Commission on Human Rights and Adminstrative Justice (CHRAJ) who has been accused of spending about 200,000 dollars on rent alone. Despite the recent corruption cases the African continent is witnessing, President Mahama believes African governments are working assiduously to fight the canker.
