Black Queens Coach Basigi Blames AWC Exit on Lack of Financial Motivation

Head coach of the Ghana Black Queens Yusif Basigi has attributed his team's early exit fromthe 2014 African Women Championship ongoing in Namibia to the late payment of financial entitlements due the team. The Queens were owed qualification bonuses before they departed for Namibia a month ago but the Ministry for Youth and sports delayed in settling the bonueses and per diem of the team whiles in Namibia. Reports indicate that the accountant of the Sports Ministry arrived late in Namibia when the team were about to play their final group game against Cameroon. The accountant touched down in Windheok on Saturday evening after the Queens final Group B match against Cameroon. One of the factors was that they were demotivated because all along our expectations were not met especially with the late arrival of the accountant of the Ministry, Basigi told Accra based radio station Starr 103.5FM. The Black Queens clawed four points from their three Group B matches after suffering an opening day defeat to Algeria, holding South Africa to a 1-1 draw and clinching a 1-0 victory over Cameroon, yet failed to progress to the knock-out stage due to an inferior goals difference.
