South Africa Wants Ghana To Consider Hosting AFCON 2015

Sello Moore, Spokesperson for South Africas Ministry of Sports and recreation has urged Ghana to host the 2015 African Cup of Nations tournament. The Confederation of African Football [CAF] last week ordered Ghana and South Africa to consider hosting next years competition after initial host Morocco requested the tournament to be postponed due to concerns over the deadly Ebola epidemic which has hit some West African countries. The tournament which kicks starts from January 17, 2015 is on the verge of receiving a deferment after South Africa who were considered favorite to host the tournament also announced their reluctance on hosting the event. The sudden declaration by Africas football governing body [CAF] has left the Ghanaian Public in mix feelings as many believe the current economic conditions coupled with the outbreak of the deadly disease [Ebola] in some West African countries might leave the country in a dilemma. But Sello Moore, in an interview with Accra-based Starr Fm advised the government of Ghana to consider hosting Africas flagship football event next year as he believes Ghana has the needed infrastructures to accommodate all 16 nations that will be participating in the event. Ghana has the capacity in hosting, and I think in 2000 they [Ghana] jointly hosted with Nigeria. So I will say Ghana should go for it, he said. I dont think there is any challenge because Ghana has the capacity in hosting any major tournament so I think if they [Ghana] go in for it, it will work out. Ghana has been producing footballers, and has the facilities as well. Many other African countries do have the facilities as well. Many think South African can host because of the 2010 infrastructures, but we think other African countries can improve their infrastructure by hosting it as well. Ghana President, his Excellency John Dramani Mahama has already expressed wary about the Ebola pandemic after he was notified about CAFs decision to have Ghana host the competition. The Government of Ghana is yet to take a concrete decision on whether or not to accept CAFs proposal to host the 31st edition of the African Cup of Nations tournament. Ghana has hosted the tournament on four occasions, thus 1963, 1978, 2000 [co-host with Nigeria] and 2008.
