Mahama Ayariga Must Apologise To Ghanaians For AFCON 2015 Host Claims

A former deputy Youth and Sports Minister, O.B. Amoah has called on incumbent Sports Minister, Mahama Ayariga, to publicly apologise to Ghanaians over claims that Ghana has the capacity to host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations if Morocco pulls out as the host nation. Morocco has petitioned CAF to reschedule the 2015 tournament due to the outbreak of the Ebola virus disease which has claimed over 4500 lives in Africa, mainly in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. Nigeria, Senegal, USA and Spain have also recorded some cases. But the African football governing body has declined the request and has asked Ghana and South Africa to prepare to step in should scheduled host, Morocco, pull out. After confirming that the Sports Ministry had been contacted by CAF, Ayariga expressed confidence in Ghanas capacity to host the tournament, leading to severe criticisms from the public. In an interview with Starr FM, Amoah said the former Information minister must apologise to Ghanaians for taking a position that had not been agreed by cabinet. "I believe all this started with the Sports Minister, he has to find a way of apologising to Ghanaians because he has been in government for some time now he should know how government works. If a major matter like hosting AFCON 2015 has not been referred to cabinet and the president, he has no business to come out that we are ready to host the competition Mr. Amoah said.
