Anthony Karbo Lauds Public Sector Workers For Embarking On Strike

Spokesperson for the three-time Running Mate to NPP's flagbearer Nana Addo, Anthony Abayifa Karbo has agreed to the action taken by Labour groups in the country against the government. Anthony Karbo lauded the public sector workers for embarking on strike to register their displeasure with the government, claiming that the workers have been mistreated. The public sector strikers in the country have embarked on a strike action due to government's inability to resolve the impasse over the management of the second tier pension scheme under the National Pension Act 2008 (Act 766). The strike was necessitated by the fact that beneficiaries of the second tier pension are to benefit from the scheme next year. However the organized labour was uncertain whether they will indeed be paid by the government. Speaking on Peace FM's Morning Show "Kokrokoo", Spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Anthony Karbo bemoaned the failure of government to find amicable solutions to the conflict. According to him, the pension scheme is like a "goldmine" for the workers who rely on it for survival after retirement; so, they deserve to be paid their arrears to sustain them and their families. Anthony Karbo believed the workers have embarked on strike because they have lost trust in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government due to the failures in remitting the salaries and allowances of public workers in the country. He opined that the Mahama government has not been fair to workers and therefore cannot claim that it cares for them. To him, the ruling NDC's mantra of "I Care For You" has been woefully defeated by the mismanagement of the second tier pension scheme. I doubt if they can still tell us that they care for the Ghanaian workers...Today, is the NDC going to jump on that high horse again to claim that they care for the Ghanaian worker after all these things which are happening; the difficulties the Ghanaian workers are going through? Anthony Karbo therefore called on the government to revise its notes and ensure that the pensioners benefit from the scheme to support their lives.
