Nana Addo On Red Alert...

Barely a week after Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, twice-defeated Presidential candidate, had the chance to lead his party for the third time in 2016, issues about who and who should constitute his campaign team are beeping. The man who had mince-meat of the closet rival, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, and Francis Addai Nimo during the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) search for a flagbearer last Saturday, has now come to the herculean task of getting people he could trust to be part of his campaign. Interestingly, Messrs Kyerematen and Addai-Nimo have pledged their readiness to be part of Nana Addais campaign. But it appears the two defeated aspirants would not be assigned any major or meaningful roles in the scheme of affairs. A top party member with close links with the twice defeated Presidential candidate told 'The Enquirer' that Nana Addo is on the alert this time. In a chat with 'The Enquirer' via mobile phone yesterday, the NPP top member said that the idea of having a Father For All campaign will not work this time round. According to him, Nana Addo has tried that thing in his two defeats and there were elements in his campaign that did not help his quest to win elections in 2008 and 2012. Is it not striking to have faces with presidential ambitions in a Presidential candidates campaign team? He questioned. Sounding more aggressive during the chat with The Enquirer, the NPP top notch said that Nana Addo this time round is wide awake. My brother, there are certain characters that will not be made to lead front roles in the campaign in the quest to defeat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2012, he said. He said: Then comes the issues of who to entrust with money as there are records of persons sitting on campaign funds from Nana Addo. Our candidate is alert this time round and there is no room for gold diggers, he told The Enquirer. According to the NPP big man, although, it was too early to mention names of who would constitute the team, what happened previously should guide who is called to be part of the team. There were instances where people had been allocated with funding to be at certain places but they sat in Accra and gave flimsy excuses when they were caught, he said. He said that it was important to have committed and loyal persons to handle the campaign than to have people, who would be seen with the candidate in the morning and in the evening they would campaigning for their future ambition.
