Police Arrest Tema Fake Doctor

Police in Tema have arrested a fake medical doctor for operating without license. David Asare Darku, who runs a facility at the Tema Habour, was picked up yesterday on the request of the Ghana Medical and Dental Council. Dr. Eli Atikpui, registrar of the Council, told Joy News the suspect had testified before the District magistrate court in Tema during which he referred to himself as a registered medical practitioner. "He claimed that he really graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School, but he couldn't readily give us the year. "He said he was fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council. Apparently we do not have any records of this gentleman," Dr Atikpui explained. The Registrar said the suspect was deemed to have operated over the years until he was picked up. Meanwhile, the Council has put on hold investigations into the activities of Dr Sulley Ali-Gabass, who has been accused of sodomising a 16-year-old boy. Dr. Gabass has been remanded in police custody after appearing in court yesterday over charges of defilement and unnatural carnal knowledge. Dr. Eli Atikpui says the Council will wait until the case in court is completed.
