Kojo Bonsu Apologises...

The Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu has rendered an unqualified apology to the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament for his failure to appear before it. The Mayor incurred the displeasure of the members of the committee for not appearing before it when it was in Kumasi to scrutinize audited reports of public institutions in the Ashanti Region, including the KMA. Mr. Bonsu who was invited to appear and give account of the Assembly had started his annual leave at the time he was due to appear before the committee. His absence angered members on the committee who expressed frustrations at the Mayors failure to appear before it. In a telephone interview, Mr. Bonsu said, I cant explain my inability to appear before the august committee in the media, but I'm sorry for my failure to appear. I have maximum respect for the committee and would have loved to appear to account for my office but compelling circumstances beyond my control which necessitated my annual leave accounted for my failure to appear before it, he added. Stressing that, I'm prepared to appear before this honorable committee anywhere in this country as soon as possible My failure to appear was not intentional, and I apologise unreservedly, he said. Following the Mayors inability to appear, the Chairman of the Committee, Kweku Agyemang Manu deferred the scrutiny of the Kumasi account.
