Big Men In Society Own Most Of The Okadas

The National Director of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) off the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Angwubutoge Awuni, has expressed concern over the use of motor bikes for commercial purposes, disclosing why the police cannot stop Okada operators. At a press briefing on the current road safety situation in the country, DCOP Awuni stated that the Okada operators are backed by Powerful men in the society and that some big men in the society own most of the Okadas in town so we cannot stop them. When you arrest Okada riders of using it for commercial purpose, they escape from it because it belongs to some big men in the state. Most of the big men have sold their cars to run Okada business, which is very bad, he added. When you arrest Okada riders and take them to court, they come out freely and you become a laughing stock to them, said DCOP Angwubutoge. The Former Commander of Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service noted that when I took the Okada issue to Parliament, I was transferred to the Police headquarters. DCOP Awuni advised Ghanaians to restrain form okada transport, saying that on October 5th, a motorbike rider aged 17, and his mother of 40 died instantly when the Royal Motor bike on which they were travelling collided with a KIA Trade vehicle.
