President Mahama Should Cancel His Trips And Return Home

Hon. Henry Quartey, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to cancel his trips abroad and return back to the country. According to Hon. Henry Quartey, Ghanaians did not vote for him (President Mahama) to take "jolly-rides" around the globe while workers in the country are on strike. After about five years of collecting the second-tier pension contributions of workers, accrued benefits which must be paid to the workers have not been paid to them. The workers have embarked on strike to demand an account for their contributions to allow them manage their own funds. However, authorities of the pension fund have called for a meeting between them and the workers to find amicable solutions to the conflict. In the wake of the strike action by the workers, the President is on business trips outside the shores of Ghana. Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Hon. Quartey believed the workers have lost trust in the administrators of the pension scheme because the authorities have demonstrated beyond "reasonable doubt" that they are incapable of "managing the funds of the good people of this country. He questioned the authorities to account for the workers' money if indeed the funds are properly managed. How much is the money? What have they invested in? What are the dividends? he asked. To him, the workers have not been treated fairly and so, implored the President to intervene to resolve the issue.
