Visually Impaired Proprietor Of "Eye Of The Lord" Orphanage Storms U-tv

It was alleged that he is not the legal proprietor of the Eye of the Lord Orphanage. He was accused of mobilizing and exploiting innocent children at Otoase, a suburb of Adoagyiri - Nsawam in the Eastern Region. Since U TV and Peacefmonline.com brought turned its spotlight on some children living under terrible conditions at Otoase, several counter arguments and rebuttals against the publication have arisen. Queen mother of the area and the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Samuel Ayeh-Paye, came out to vehemently deny knowledge of the orphanage and further claimed that the proprietor, Samuel Kwapong Darko, a visually impaired graduate from the Akropong School of Blind, was using the children for capital gains. In order to clarify the facts and dispel all misconceptions, the owner of the orphanage and his wife came into U TV studio to render an account about the establishment of the orphanage and its purpose. When interviewed and asked about the true ownership of the orphanage on U-TV�s Midday News, Mr. Darko stated unequivocally that he set up the home for the children for humanitarian reasons. According to him, he has registered the orphanage with the Social Welfare, an institution in charge of the wellbeing of deprived children in the country; to cater for the needs of underprivileged children at Otoase. Though admitting that some children at the orphanage have parents whereas others are orphans, he however stressed that parents virtually lived in abject poverty and found it difficult to afford the needs of their children. The parents, he explained, therefore decided to give their children out to the orphanage in order to sustain and provide them with basic necessities of life. Also, speaking during the Midday News on U TV, the Godmother of Samuel Darko; Madam Elizabeth Damptey confirmed him as the owner of the orphanage. She debunked allegations leveled at him (Mr. Darko) that he was exploiting the children and asserted that the orphanage came into being as result of the compassion Mr. Darko had for destitute children in the locality.
