Youth Of Sekondi-Takoradi Kick Against Attempt To Stop Construction Of Mall

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has explained that the slight delay in retrieval of baggage on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport was due to the newly installed conveyor belt which is fitted with an x-ray component. The company said in a statement that the new system was automated, unlike the old one which was manual and thus moved faster and took a higher number of baggages at a time than the automated one. The x-ray belt, where luggages are first placed to be scanned, has sensor on its which determines the amount of space between the baggage. This means that only a limited number of luggage can be put on at a time. The Company said it was better to delay luggage for a few more minutes in order to know what is being brought into the country than to speed it up at the risk of allowing illegal goods into the country. The GACL assured passengers that two additional belts would be installed after the ongoing expansion is completed, which would bring the total number of belts to four. Also, in order to address the issue of leakages in the roof at the airport which sometimes gets luggage wet, airport authorities said a complete re-roofing of the terminal was underway, using double-layer roofing sheets placed over the existing roof.
