Prez Mahama Off To Ouagadougou To Resolve Political Turmoil

ECOWAS Chair John Mahama will Wednesday morning travel to Ghanas politically ravaged northern neighbour Burkina Faso to attempt to restore that country to civilian rule. Ouagadougou was plunged into political turmoil following a popular uprising by the people against President Blaise Campaore, who eventually resigned and fled the country. The AU has given the army of Burkina Faso two weeks to hand over power to a civilian leader. The Unions directive follows subsequent demonstrations by the people against a decision by the army for a Colonel to head a transitional government. Mahama and other West African leaders will be discussing the way forward for Burkina Faso during his Wednesday visit. He is expected back home in the evening of the same day.
