Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Minister of Education, on Tuesday warned heads of second cycle institutions, against charging unapproved fees. She said government was working to meet the infrastructural needs and improve enrollment in public Senior High Schools (SHSs). She therefore called on educational heads to help remove any impediment to the effort. Prof Opoku-Agyemang gave the warning when President John Dramani Mahama defied a downpour to launch the construction of the Community Day SHSs project at Kintampo. The project is being funded by the World Bank at the cost of 150 million Dollars. Prof Opoku-Agyemang said the Ministry had prioritized the improvement of Information Communication and Technology (ICT), as a strategy to enhance effective teaching and learning of mathematics and science subjects. Prof Opoku-Agyemang pointed out that all these efforts, and a number of interventions, would be in vain if students failed to learn. She advised students to focus on their books and work hard to achieve remarkable results and achieve high academic laurels. Mr Eric Opoku, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, said work had commenced on the construction of seven SHSs in Derma, Kasapin, Danyame, Krobo, Anyima and Nkrankwanta under the first phase of the project. President Mahama commended the World Bank and other development partners for their support in facilitating accelerated national development.
