Car Knocks Down Dead NDC Activist (PHOTO)

A grassroots party activist of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) from the Asawase constituency in Kumasi was this morning knocked down by a vehicle at Akomadan, where the party is holding its Ashanti Regional Youth and Women�s delegates congress. Madam Hajia Hawa, who had arrived in Akomadan as a delegate from Asawase, was knocked down while crossing the main Kumasi road in front of the Akomadan Senior High School where the congress was taking place. Graphiconlne reporter, Donald Ato Dapatem who witnessed the incident said Hawa was knocked down unconscious and was suspected dead. She somersaulted after the impact, and hit her head on the floor and fell unconscious. She has since been conveyed to the hospital. Dapatem reported that the driver, who was in charge of a white Kia Rio saloon vehicle with registration number GS 6637 - 12 was speeding and therefore could not stop when he saw Hawa crossing the road. Police personnel who arrived at the scene moments after the accident happened around 11am later took the driver away for interrogation and impounded the vehicle. Delegates of the Ashanti Regional branch of the NDC have gathered at Akomadan to elect new executives for their Youth and Women's wing. In attendance is the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong and some national executives of the party. Dapatem reported that the accident happened before the congress officially opened.
