Information gathered by the DAILY HERITAGE reveals that the Managing Director (MD) of Produce Buying Company (PBC), Kojo Atta-Krah was nearly beaten to pulp by some District Chief Executives (DCEs) and constituency executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly casting insinuations at President John Dramani Mahama during a meeting at the residence of the Mpraeso DCE.
The PBC MD who is a staunch member of the NDC was hooted at and chased out of the meeting, with some of the angry youth nearly lynching him, had he not jumped into his waiting vehicle after sensing danger.
The meeting was at the instance of the PBC MD and attended by four DCEs from New Abirim, Kwahu South, Nkawkaw and Abetifi districts, as well as constituency executives from four constituencies in the aforementioned districts.
Information available and confirmed by some of the party executives, who were at the meeting, revealed that the MD called the meeting to woo the delegates to vote for his favourite aspiring candidates in the upcoming Eastern regional congress.
His preferred candidates were John Owusu Amankrah and Mathew Doe as regional chairman and secretary respectively and asked the delegates to reject Tawiah Boateng and Mark Oliver Kevor who are respectively aspiring for the same positions.
The MD was alleged to have told the delegates that President Mahama had disappointed the Eastern region since he appointed a handful of cabinet ministers from the region and that because the President was a Northerner; he had made many of the ministerial appointments from the three Northern regions and the Volta region.
According to him, he does not blame the President much because the Eastern region lacked the men, therefore, the delegates should vote for someone who can be a potential cabinet minister.
The comment made by the PBC MD did not go down well with the DCEs and party executives who charged on the MD to retract the tribal statement made. However, the MD failed to do so which triggered hostility and hooting by the party delegates who chased the MD out from the residence.
Attempts made to reach Mr. Atta-Krah proved futile despite several calls and text messages sent to him by this reporter. Meanwhile, information gathered by the paper indicates that the MD has been reported to the regional minister to explain the rationale behind his comments.
