MCE Accused Of Blowing Over Gh60,000 On Funeral Donations

The Municipal Chief Executive of Ejura Sekyeredumase Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Mohammed Bawah Braimah has been accused of allegedly spending about Gh60,998.46 of Internally Generated Fund (IGF) meant for developing the Municipality on funeral donations. According to the Assembly Members, the MCE has within 6 months of his appointment caused financial loss to the municipality by spending the IGF on social programs as expenditure of the Assembly has been doubled to about 400 percent from January to June, 2014. They are also incriminating the Municipal Director of feeder roads, Mr. Tricky for abetting the MCE, Alhaji Mohammed Bawah Braimah to spend over GH42,000 on a ghost project in the municipality. Our Assembly's Budget Estimate for 2014 is indicating that, a yearly projection of Gh10,000.00 have been estimated for social programs but the MCE has doubled the expenditure to about 400% from January to June and still asking for more to accommodate those expenses for the rest of the year...the document justifies 400% is way above the half year 50 percent projection due to the regular invitations of the MCE to social and funeral programmes." The Assembly members however wondered why a government would throw up monies at merry making events while still in battle with indefinite labor unrest and acute energy crises, asserting that the MCE is aggrandizing the expenditure for political expediency. An Assembly member who revealed these documents said; "this spending you are seeing here is just a tip of the iceberg, there are more shoddy deals that we don't talk about...the money spent is unprecedented and very unmerited and soon we shall call for his removal," he promised. Peacefmonline.com spoke to the MCE, Alhaji Mohammed Bawah Braimah on the allegation made by his Assembly Members and in his response, he said his members have not made any official complain to him, asking for the allegation to be treated with the contempt it deserves. He however posited that he could not have spent his personal money on social events when he has been invited to grace any occasion as Municipal Chief Executive; adding he does not see anything wrong with supporting church building projects in his municipality with the internally generated funds. The Assembly Members are therefore calling for an immediate audit and assessment of the assembly's expenditure by the Auditor General Department.
