Parliamentary Service Board Must Be Surcharged

Henry Haruna Asante, Communications Director for the People's National Convention (PNC), has expressed disappointment in the Parliamentary Service Board over the refurbishment works that have taken place in the House. Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Henry Asante expressed worry about the quality of the chairs in the august House, wondering why the Board contracted the Chinese to refurbish the place. Barely a week after news about Parliament acquiring new furniture from China broke out, Peacefmonline.com cameras located one of the wheels at the base of the swivel chairs broken. This indicated that one of the chairs was faulty and since then, critics have raised eyebrows about the quality of the entire products acquired from China to refurbish the House. Addressing the issue, Mr. Asante called for the Board to be surcharged for apparently importing chairs that fall below standard. According to him, the House has underestimated local furniture manufacturers because to him, the contract could have been given to local manufacturers to appreciate made-in-Ghana products. He bemoaned the practice where leaders advise Ghanaians to solicit the services of local producers but fail to set example to the citizenry. He therefore proposed that a sample of the chairs should be presented to the President, John Dramani Mahama, to verify its quality.
