Only 18 Out Of 46 Newly Created Districts Receive Capital To Fund Operations

Out of the 46 newly created districts; only 18 have received their seed money to fund the operations of the assemblies. The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Julius Debrah says government released an initial GH� 100,000.00 for the purchase of equipment and furniture for the start-up of each district. The Ministry also procured official vehicles for the 46 new DCEs. Mr Debrah said this when he appeared in Parliament to answer some questions in his domain. The question on the seed money for the districts stood in the name of the MP for Yagaba Kubori, Mustapha Ussif. Mr Debrah added that the remainder of the money is being used to construct administration blocks. The MP for Yagaba Kubori, in an interview with Radio Ghana expressed his frustration at the situation. He said while the creation of the district is a plausible decision, the absence of funding has made the venture a fruitless one.
