Antrak Air Turns Away Disabled Man

Domestic airline, Antrak Air has allegedly refused to allow a disabled man a scheduled flight originating from the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Monday. 57-year-old Nies Buster Morsk who had come from Denmark for volunteering work in Ghana, booked a flight to Tamale for a business meeting but was turned away when he arrived to board his flight. Narrating his ordeal to Adom News, Mr. Buster Morsk said the airline managers told him it is company policy not to carry disabled people. The Danish national who is paralyzed in the leg, expressed shock at the policy of Antrak in an era where discrimination in any form is frowned upon. Im used to flying domestically but this is the first time I have been turned away. Im very disappointed and sad about it. This is discrimination he bemoaned. Nies Buster Morsk said he had to cancel his business meeting due to the unfortunate situation. Efforts by Adom News to reach management of Antrak Air for their side of the story proved futile. Meanwhile, the Ghana Federation of the Disabled is outraged at the incident. President of the Federation, Yaw Ofori Debrah said they have instituted investigations into the matter to ensure the culprits are brought to book. We have sent a delegation to Antrak Air for their side of the story to help us in our investigation he added.Meanwhile, a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Commodore Kwame Kurankye Pumpuni (rtd) says airlines are generally not designed to be disability friendly. He called on the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to provide logistics at the airport for physically challenged persons to enjoy air transport.
