The 1992 Constitution Needs A Complete Overhaul - Kabila

James Kwabena Bomfeh, staunch member of the Convention People's Party (CPP), has called for a complete review of the 1992 Constitution. Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", James Kwabena Bomfeh told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the Constitutional Review Committee should remove the "entrenched provisions" in the constitution. According to him, the Review Committee should take a second look at certain provisions including the provision that authorizes the swearing in of the Speaker of Parliament as President of the Republic. The 1992 Constitution needs an overhaul. It requests a complete serious overhaul and the amendments and the review; it must come from the people. Reacting to the issue pertaining to the swearing in of the Speaker as President, the CPP bigwig kicked against the "multiple Presidents" system in the country and wondered why the Speaker of Parliament should assume the office of the President in the absence of the President and his Vice. This issue has opened up the window again, an opportunity for us to discuss and come to a conclusion that; why should we have multiple Presidents in this country?...You have a President addressing UN. You have a President in India. You have a President at home. What kind of confusion is that? He also appealed to the Review Committee to ensure that people "suffer for their decisions and in-decisions in the past.
