Why Men Must Boycott Sex Today

Both married and single men must boycott sex, kissing or coming in contact in any form with their spouses on November 11. This is not enshrined anywhere in the Kenyan Constitution but is a push by men rights activist, Nderitu Njoka, to mark International Mens Liberation Day. According to Njoka,On that day, men should neither have sex nor eat food. They are supposed to fast and pray and only wave at women using their left hand to signify their difference with women. Njoka told The Nairobian that, The day is basically meant to demonstrate the rise of gender violence against men, including increase of drug and alcohol abuse among women. Furthermore, it is a demonstration against the government for setting aside up to Sh2 billion for sanitary towels and not half of that for circumcision of men, Njoka added. The day was launched by Maendeleo Ya Wanaume aka Global Men Empowerment Network (GEM) at Jeevanjee Gardens last year. To succeed in marking the day, Njoka says men should dialogue with their spouses for peaceful families. Male religious leaders should also embrace this initiative by not appointing women as church leaders. He added that, Men, according to the Koran and the Bible, are the heads of families, but today, they have been relegated to be necks, while women are taking over the world. City lawyer Alice Maina says that, The day is not necessary at all. Denying your partner her conjugal rights is wrong. Kevin Kiprono, an architect and supporter of MYW says, Actually, we must have our own day to reflect on how women have turned against men. This day should have been enshrined in our Constitution. Former Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chair Rukia Subow told The Nairobian that, I cant remember anything like that during my regime and I dont have much to comment on it because no one knows about the day.
