ECG Disconnects GBC Over Debt

The Kumasi branch of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation has become the latest casualty as the Electricity Corporation of Ghana continues with its mass disconnection exercise to recover unpaid bills. The National Broadcaster owes the power company GHC 329,000. The Baba Yara sports stadium and other key state institutions in the garden city have all been affected in the ongoing exercise. Starr News� reporter Isaac Bediako Justice reports that the Kumasi Cultural Center, the University of Education campus, the Konongo and Owuram mines have all been disconnected. The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Manager of the ECG, Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, in an earlier interview told Starr News theatres and emergency wards in affected hospitals will, however, be excluded. �We have started disconnection in full swing. All the district offices are involved. We have printed a docket from our database and they are volumes and we�ll give them block by block to our teams to make sure all those who refuse to pay we disconnect them".
