3 Caged Over GH100,000 Theft

A Sunyani District Magistrate Court on Wednesday remanded the three men who allegedly broke into a shop in Sunyani and stole a whopping amount of GH100,000. The three suspectsMohammed Iddrisu, 39, a car dealer, Nana Yaw Kyeremeh, 30, a galamsey operator and Eric Addae, alias Dada, 38, a driverwho have been charged with unlawful entry, stealing and offensive use of weapons, have been remanded into police custody to re-appear in court on November 26. They allegedly broke into Chambees Company Limited, dealers in assorted goods, on the night of October 29, 2014 and made away with the huge amount which was kept in a safe. The suspects were grabbed by the police last Thursday from their hideouts in Sunyani and Kumasi after extensive investigations. Nana Yaw Kyeremeh, the architect of the offence, who is based in Sunyani, invited his two accomplices from Kumasi with the claim that he had gotten a job for them and that they should come to Sunyani for the operation. The suspects went to the shop on the fateful day and packed their posh 44 Ford Escape vehicle, with fake registration number AS 5165-14, in front of the shop claiming that their car had developed a fault. They allegedly opened the bonnet and started conversing with the two private security men manning the shop. The two security menOsei Bonsu, 62, and Kwadwo Amankwaah, 38allegedly sympathised with the suspects and went closer to their car. After some time, the trio started taking tea and gave the two security men some of the beverage to drink. Shortly after taking the beverage, which the suspects had deliberately drugged, the security men dosed off and slept throughout the night. The suspects then broke into the shop and made away with the safe containing the huge amount. They admitted committing the offence after their arrest and claimed that they took the safe into the bush and broke into it and shared the booty. Eric Addae told the police that he still had an amount of GH20,000 in his account, but the rest claimed they had spent theirs. The car they used for the operation, which belongs to Mohammed Iddrisu, and another vehicle, a Toyota Matrix with DV number 3860 B, which also belongs to Nana Yaw Kyeremeh, have all been impounded by the police. The police have also retrieved the safe that contained the money.
