Ghana Rugby Club Championship Produces More Entertaining Rugby

Match day three of the Ghana Rugby Club Championship (GRCC) 2014/15 came off on Saturday November 16th on the Accra Rugby pitch in Legon. Three league matches were scheduled with the kick off time for the first game at 11am between Idas Sports RFC and Dansoman Hurricanes RFC. This was the third round of games from Pool A with Clubs from Greater Accra. Dansoman Hurricanes, having lost their two previous games, were hoping to get back to winning ways this week. The game was fiercely contested by both teams but as it turned out luck was not on the side of the Hurricanes. The only try of the game came from Idas Sports RFC in the first half which was enough for them to win the game. The captain of Dansoman Hurricanes, Edi, was very disappointed at the teams hard luck this season and hopes to turn the tables around in their favour sooner than later. He also congratulated Idas Sports RFC for a good game. The last game of the day was between runners up of last season's Rugby league, Legon Titans RFC, and Accra Sharks RFC. Legon Titans, having won all two of their previous league matches, were in high spirits to secure their third successive win of the season. Legon Titans were tactically sharp on the field showing clearly how well they had prepared for the game . They scored one try after another to the dismay of Accra Sharks RFC. At the full time whistle they had score 69 points to 0, the highest scoreline so far this season. Mr. Wilson aka Rasta of Accra Sharks RFC was very disappointed by his teams performance. Speaking to the media he said, "it is quite clear that the opposition prepared very well for this game and I hope my team start pushing harder". He went on to congratulate Legon Titans for a good game. Next week's League fixtures promises to be very exciting as Legon Titans RFC takes on Cosmos Buffaloes, arguably two of the best teams of the Rugby Championship. They will come face to face for the first time this season. Both teams have shown great team work, discipline and the tenacity to win. So far both teams are undefeated and are looking to preserve their 100 percent record. The question on everybodys mind is if the Titans will be able to overpower the Buffaloes this time round. Pending any possible sanctions, Legon Titans RFC still sit comfortably at the summit of the league table with 15 points after 3 games, Cosmos Buffaloes is following closing behind with 14 points, Idas Sports RFC third with 9 points, Tema Anchors fourth with 2 points,Dansoman Hurricanes fifth with 1 point and Accra Sharks lie at the bottom with no points. In an interview from Europe with Mr. Herbert Mensah, President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), he said that he was encouraged by the reports of improvement in governance, play, discipline and officiating as the Club Championship advances. The Club Championship is the premier event for Associations, Clubs, match officials and players to learn and improve on their skills both on-and-off-the-field and I hope that they will embrace this opportunity fully, Mr. Mensah said. He continued to say, I also welcome the fact that some Clubs have taken up the vehicle presented to them to raise funds for their Clubs and to indeed meet their committments towards GRCC participation. This initiative will hopefully serve as starting point for Clubs to look at their critical responsibility of funding in a wider perspective.
