Man Jailed 7 Years For Defilement

The Tamale Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Senyo, has sentenced a 35-year-old man, Alhassan Dakoro, to seven years� imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old pupil. Narrating the case to The Finder, Chief Inspector Martin Obeng Botwei noted that on October 30, 2014 at about 7pm, the accused, Alhassan Dakoro, offered the victim a lift on his motorbike when he met the victim, Hafsa Yakubu, an 11-year-old pupil of Darrihaddis Islamic School at Kpalsi, a suburb of Tamale. According to Chief Inspector Botwei, when they got to the forest reserve around Nobisco, the accused stopped and forcibly had sex with the victim. Not able to contain the pain, the victim started crying, and this attracted the attention of passersby, who went to his aid. The accused took to his heels upon sighting the people, but luck however eluded him when some people within the vicinity arrested him and handed him over to the police. He was later arraigned before the Tamale Circuit Court, where the accused pleaded guilty to the offence and was subsequently convicted on his own plea to seven years� imprisonment. In another development, a 32-year-old teacher in Wulensi, Adam Bashiru, alias Researcher, is also in the firm grips of the law for allegedly raping Ramatu Mahama, a 15-year-old JHS student. Narrating the issue to The Finder, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Martin Botwei, noted that the accused was an invigilator at the BECE Centre the victim wrote her examination. He added that the accused invited the victim to his house after the victim had finished writing the mathematics paper. The accused, Adam Bashiru, invigilated and told the accused to allow him have sex with her, failure for which he the accused would fail the victim in the mathematics paper. The victim refused to succumb to the demands of her sexual assailant. She was not spared the wrath of Adam Bashiru, who forcibly had sex with the victim and threatened to fail her if she dared mention it to anybody. The victim, Ramatu Mahama, not being able to contain the psychological trauma she went through, later narrated her ordeal to her parents, who reported the issue to the Tamale Police, and the accused was arrested and arraigned before the Tamale Circuit Court. The Tamale Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Senyo, adjourned the case after the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
