Teacher Arrested For "Unlawful Imprisonment" Of Boy

A teacher of the Deeper Preparatory School at Bankyimu near Tarkwa in the Western Region has been arrainged before court, for what the Tarkwa Police Command terms as, unlawful imprisonment. According to Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, Teacher Lucas was arrested last Friday after a stranger reported to the police of a little boy who had been locked up in one of the offices of the school. ..this person told us she was only passing by when she heard the boy crying and calling out for help. She then quickly rushed to the police station to lodge a complaint. Upon hearing this, I mobilized my men and went to the scene and broke the twelve-year-old boy free from the poorly ventilated office. "..after the door was opened, the boy collapsed and had to be rushed to the Tarkwa Government Hospital for treatment and came back to arrest teacher Lucas, who explained that the boy had stolen his pencil and eraser, the Detective told NEAT 100.9 FM. On the part of the boys father, Emmanuel Ofori, the locking up of his child is an act of wickedness because the teacher knows very well and could have therefore reported his son to him if indeed he did something wrong and not to hold him up for more than eight hours. I sent him to go and fetch water for me. All of us in this area fetch water from the Deeper Preparatory School but for many hours, he was not returning so I followed up only to see him locked up in an office of the school. After hearing his story, I decided not to force the doors of the office open but reported to the police. Thankfully, a good Samaritan had reported to the police before I got there, Mr. Ofori narrated. However, teacher Lucas is set to make his first court appearance on Wednesday, 12th November, 2014.
