An Aflao Circuit Court Monday sentenced two friends to a total of 50 years in prison for motorbike robbery. They are Kweku Ashagbi, 35, an employee of Diamond Cement Factory at Aflao and John Control Zuguda, 30, unemployed. They both pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and robbery. The court, presided over by Mr. Ali Baba Abature, jailed each of them to five years for conspiracy and 20 years for robbery to run concurrently. Mr. Francis Ampofo, Police Inspector told the court that Yves Adabla and Joseph Asimadu, Togolese who were travelling by their motorbikes to Ghana through Noepe in April this year were accosted by Ashagbi and Zuguda along the way. Mr. Ampofo said Ashagbi and Zuguda introduced themselves as National Security Operatives on special anti-crime duties and ordered the victims to surrender their bikes. He said as the victims pleaded, the suspects hit them on their foreheads with hammers and clubs and snatched the bikes worth GH�2,655 each and a cash of 11,000 CFA from them. Mr. Ampofo said a witness who identified Ashagbi at that spot gave information leading to his arrest and he also led police to pick Zuguda. He said Ashagbi and Zuguda led the police to the bush near Zukpe, to retrieve the bikes and their keys which were buried. Before judgment, Mr. Abature said the court will not sit aloof to allow such miscreants to prevent law abiding citizens from going about their normal duties.
